[Unpad.ac.id, 4/6/2018] Padjadjaran University received an award from the Governor of West Java as a college that actively supports the achievement of Ciletuh-Palabuharatu Geopark become UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG). The award was given directly by Governor of West Java. Ahmad Heryawan to the Rector of Unpad, Prof. Tri Hanggono Achmad and Head of Research Center of Geopark and Geology Geology Unpad Prof. Ir. Mega Fatimah Rosana, M.Sc., PhD, in the event of thankgiving establishment Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark Becoming UNESCO Global Geopark, in East Hall Gedung Sate, Bandung, Sunday (3/6) afternoon.
Prof. Mega explained, Unpad as a team that is active in the process of realizing Ciletuh-Palabuharatu Geopark become UGG. This is evident from many research activities that have long been done Prof. Mega as well as other Unpad academicians in Ciletuh. Unpad support for Ciletuh has become the university’s flagship program. The existence of Geopark research center in Unpad shows the university’s commitment in development Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark in terms of scientific study.
“This award encourages me and Geopark Research Center Unpad to continuously improve various research programs, provide conservation geological education and geological disaster prevention to the people or community,” said Prof. Mega. The Governor also asked Unpad to continue providing various multidisciplinary researches from all fields of science. On the other hand, community service programs can be continued by Unpad in Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark .
“This community service program (hopefully) can grow people’s economy based on local potential and wisdom in Geopark,” he added. After become UGG in April, Unpad through Geopark Research Center Unpad continue to conduct Tridarma activities in 74 villages and 8 districts located in Geopark region. Prof. Mega also expects all faculties in Unpad to actively improve research and community service in Ciletuh area of Geopark .
The award also provides the Governor for the team from Geopark Research Center and Geology Unpad Center, namely: Adi Hardiyono, M.T., drs. Ronald Agusta, Nugraha Ardiansyah, S.T., Rinaldi Ikhram, S.T., and Katon Sena, S.T. In addition to giving awards, in the event the governor also personally enacted UGG operations in Ciletuh Palabuhanratu Geopark . *
